Frequently asked questions

Find clear answers to common questions about mobile foot care visits, preparing for your appointment, and what to expect from a Certified Foot Care Nurse RPN in the comfort of your home.

Everything you need to know

In-home nursing care is designed to be gentle, safe, and convenient. Explore our answers below to learn how we maintain the highest standards of sterilization, personalized care, and safety for seniors, adults, and diabetic clients.

What happens during an in-home foot care visit?

During your first visit, we begin with a comprehensive nursing foot health assessment, reviewing medical history, circulation, sensation, and skin condition. We then provide gentle nail trimming, filing, reduction of thick nails, and safe treatment of calluses or corns, finishing with a soothing moisturizing application and professional home care advice.

How should I prepare for my mobile appointment?

Preparation is simple! Please wear comfortable clothing with pants that can be easily rolled up to the knee. Have a comfortable, sturdy chair ready to sit in with adequate lighting nearby. There is no need to pre-soak your feet, as assessment and sterile dry technique are preferred for skin integrity.

Why is professional foot care important for diabetic clients?

Diabetes can reduce sensation and blood flow in the lower extremities, making everyday cuts, ingrown nails, and minor abrasions vulnerable to slow healing or serious infection. A Certified Foot Care Nurse RPN is specifically trained to safely manage diabetic feet, identifying early warning signs and preventing complications using specialized clinical techniques.

How are your instruments cleaned and sterilized?

Safety is our absolute priority. All non-disposable clinical tools undergo hospital-grade multi-step sterilization adhering to Public Health Ontario and College of Nurses of Ontario standards. Every instrument set is individually packaged, autoclaved, and opened fresh right in front of you.

How often should I book a routine foot care visit?

Most clients benefit from a regular visit every 6 to 8 weeks to maintain healthy nails, manage thick growth, and prevent calluses or corns from becoming painful. Depending on your personal mobility and specific health conditions, your nurse will recommend a customized care schedule.

Are mobile nursing foot care services covered by insurance?

While routine foot care is not covered by OHIP, many extended health benefit plans, private health insurance policies, and Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) cover services delivered by a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN). You will receive an official nursing receipt after each visit to submit for reimbursement or claim as a medical expense on your annual tax return. Direct insurance billing is not available.

Do I need a doctor's referral to schedule an appointment?

No referral is required to book an appointment with our mobile foot care service. You or a caring family member can contact us directly to schedule a convenient home visit.
